UK money
Fuel cost calculator
Litres and cost for a trip, a return, or a commute, using the UK gallon.
How to use it
- Enter the distance in miles and the car’s miles per UK gallon.
- Enter the pump price in pounds per litre. There is no default price.
- Choose one way, a return trip, or a monthly commute. A commute day is a return journey, and you set how many days.
- Enter how many people, including the driver, are sharing the cost.
Miles, the UK gallon and litres
Fuel in the UK is sold in litres. Official miles per gallon use the UK gallon of 4.54609 litres, not the smaller US gallon. Litres for the trip are the miles divided by the mpg, multiplied by 4.54609. The cost is that many litres times the price you type. A return trip doubles the distance. A monthly commute doubles it again for each day you enter.
The same mpg in litres per 100 km is on the mpg to litres per 100 km converter. Miles and kilometres are on the miles and kilometres converter.
Splitting the cost
The share is the trip cost divided by the number of people, including the driver. One person means the driver pays it all. The price box has no official pump price behind it. A figure you saw on a forecourt is the right input.
