UCAS tariff points calculator
A running total from the UCAS tariff tables.
How to use it
- Add each qualification and the grade on the certificate.
- Read the points beside the grade, then the total.
- Check the course page for a cap, such as the best three A levels, before you treat the total as an offer.
The points on this page
A level grades are A* 56, A 48, B 40, C 32, D 24 and E 16. AS grades are A 20, B 16, C 12, D 10 and E 6. A Scottish Higher is A 33, B 27, C 21 and D 15. An Advanced Higher is A 56, B 48, C 40 and D 32. An Extended Project is A* 28, A 24, B 20, C 16, D 12 and E 8.
The BTEC rows are the QCF Nationals in UCAS’s tariff tables. A National Extended Diploma at D*D*D* is 168 in the current Tariff guide, the same as the QCF Extended Diploma. The Extended Certificate row uses the Subsidiary Diploma points, including D* at 56. A BTEC title that is not in the list should be checked on the UCAS calculator. Double-award A levels are not on this page.
What a university may leave out
UCAS says providers generally count the highest level in a subject. An AS beside an A level in the same subject, or a smaller BTEC beside a larger one in the same subject, may not both count. Some offers use only the best three A levels. This page adds every row you enter.

Questions
Are these the old 140-point A* figures?
No. These are the tariff points used for the 2017 admissions cycle onwards. An A* at A level is 56.
Does every university use the total?
No. Some make offers on grades rather than points, and some cap which qualifications they count.
