Men’s shoe size converter
UK and Irish, US, and both common EU readings for men’s shoes.
Ireland uses the same clothing and shoe sizes as the UK. Brands still vary from any chart.
These are standard published conversions. A label from one brand can sit a size either side of the chart.
How to use it
- Select the UK or Irish size.
- Read the US size, which is one above the UK number.
- Pick the EU column that matches the shop. One published scale is UK + 33 and another is UK + 34.
Why there are two EU columns
US men’s sizes are one above the UK size: UK 9 is US 10, UK 8 is US 9. That part is stable across most charts.
EU men’s sizes are not. A scale of UK + 33 makes a UK 8 an EU 41 and a UK 6 an EU 39. Many UK shop charts print UK + 34, so the same UK 8 is EU 42. Both columns are on this page. Use the one that agrees with the shop you are buying from. Guessing the midpoint would invent a size nobody prints.
Foot length is a guide
The millimetre column uses the barleycorn relation, (UK size + 23) × 8.47, rounded to the nearest millimetre. A UK 8 comes out at 263 mm. It describes length. It does not describe the width or the shape of a particular last. ISO 19407 notes that an exact half-size conversion between systems is not something a formula can guarantee.
Australian men’s shoes often use the UK number. Ireland uses the same sizes as the UK. Dress shoes and trainers from the same brand can still need different sizes. These rows are a published chart. Two brands with the same number can fit differently, and a garment can be cut for a different body than the chart assumes.
